The Purple Elephant Launches a Campaign for Memories

The Purple Elephant Campaign Welcomes Industry Leaders and Professionals at Its Inaugural Fundraiser Event to Raise Awareness for Alzheimer's

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 10, 2014) - In Canada, 500,000 thousand people suffer from Alzheimer's each year and the stigma associated with Alzheimer's is often negative for patients and their families. Many misconceptions about Alzheimer and dementia exist, one of which is that both are a normal part of aging.


The Purple Elephant Campaign (PEC), a novel not-for-profit organization that works towards increasing awareness and understanding of Alzheimer's disease across all levels of society, is launching its inaugural fundraising event to raise awareness for Alzheimer's. On Tuesday, June 10 PEC will bring together key industry leaders and professionals through an evening of fine food, cocktails and an atmosphere of collaboration.

This event is being hosted at the newly-opened restaurant Barsa Taberna, located at 26 Market St., across from St. Lawrence Market. The organization is hoping to raise approximately $20,000 for the PEC through ticket sales, auctions and sponsors.

The event will features speakers such as Mimi Lowi-Young, Chief Executive Officer of Alzheimer Society of Canada and Cathy Barrick, Chief Executive Officer, Alzheimer Society of Toronto. Sisters Claire and Carolyn Poirier will also share their story of their young mother affected by Alzheimer's, followed by, live acoustic music performances.
